MAD MMX & Visible Humans

DESIGN INSPIRATION / ANIMATION / ONLINE RESOURCE

About ten years ago, the U. S. National Library of Medicine’s Visible Human Project was first published and available for viewing online. I’ve kept it in mind since then but never found the right project to use it for.

Visible Human Project - sliced man

This title / credit sequence for the 2010 MAD MMX conference in Madrid by Physalia Studio caught my eye. It features animation effects that are a bit similar to ones used in the 2008 music video for Madonna’s 4 Minutes, but Physalia found a new way to incorporate the sliced cadaver concept (or the wild imagery derived from it) – and avoid the obvious lunch meat comparison at the same time.

I don’t think we’ve seen the end of sliced humans in motion design – they seem to go really well with music and graphics.
